Mark Ashton (1960-1987)
Mark Ashton was a gay rights activist who co-founded Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM). During the 1984-85 miners’ strike, he organised London’s LGBTQ+ community to raise funds for striking Welsh miners, forging an unlikely but powerful alliance. His work is a landmark example of solidarity, showing how different communities can unite to fight for each other’s rights.
