When CHANGE’s service at Advonet came to an end, its Picture Bank needed a new home. Photosymbols acquired the collection to preserve it and make the images available for the future.

CHANGE begins in Leeds, led by and for people with learning disabilities. Its work puts accessible information, rights and lived experience at the centre.

A Picture Bank for Easy Read
By 1999, the CHANGE Picture Bank is helping people explain health, relationships, rights and everyday life. Its illustrations become familiar to generations of Easy Read makers.
- 2003
A shared purpose
Karl Seymour and Pete Le Grys start Photosymbols after working in accessible information in the NHS, where they used CHANGE’s pictures themselves. They build a photographic library with people with learning disabilities.
- 2026
A new home, a new chapter
Photosymbols acquires the CHANGE Picture Bank from Advonet. Inspired by Change brings the originals and modern interpretations together, carrying the ideas forward.

In 1999, CHANGE’s Picture Bank was already helping people make information easier to understand. People with learning disabilities helped shape concepts about health, relationships, rights, and everyday life.
The real legacy is years of co-production, lived experience, and pioneering work. Now, Photosymbols is building on that work with Inspired by Change.
We’re reimagining original illustrations with AI, in a modern photographic style designed to sit alongside our Photo Library. And the originals are staying. Both versions, side by side, give you more choice for the people you support.

The original illustrations are included in Inspired by Change. If you already have CHANGE images and want to check your existing licence or previous purchase, contact us with the details so we can help.
Does my old CHANGE account work at Photosymbols?
Please contact us about an earlier CHANGE account, subscription or purchase. We’ll help you work out what it covers and how to access the collection through Photosymbols.
I already subscribe to Photosymbols. Can I add this?
Yes. If you have Photo Library or the Easy Read Bundle, get in touch about adding Inspired by Change for the remainder of your subscription. We can arrange a pro-rata addition that runs to the same renewal date as your main subscription.
What has transferred to Photosymbols?
Photosymbols has acquired the CHANGE Picture Bank. The transfer is about the image collection; CHANGE’s former advocacy and campaigning services are not provided through this website.
