Emmeline Pankhurst (1858-1928)

Emmeline Pankhurst led the British suffragette movement, using direct action and civil disobedience to demand women’s right to vote. Her refusal to be ignored and the movement’s disruptive tactics forced the issue onto the national agenda, helping secure the vote for millions. Her work is a powerful example of challenging an unjust system to achieve fundamental rights.
